THE BHOPAL DISASTER: HOW IT HAPPENED

“Bhopal” present in central india called as heart of india. The city is full of natural beauty and known as city of lakes. But, in the year 1984 the city faces a big chemical disaster known as Bhopal gas tragedy. The disaster termed as world worst disaster.Death-At least 3,787; over 16,000 claimed, Injuries-At least 558,125

The incidence occurred in the year 1984 on 2^nd and 3^rdof December night at the union carbide india limited pesticide factory in Bhopal. Tank no 610 was not lying like this on the fateful night of December 2-3, 1984. After disaster, CBI people dug out the tank to check the gross weight so that they can minus the net weight to calculate how much is remaining inside the tank. That night, this tank was containing 42 tonnes of liquid Methyl Isocyanate (MIC)The main reason behind the tragedy was leaking of methyl isocynate (MIC) gas. After leakage of gas the city was covered with a dence cloud of this harmful gas which killed thousands of people in very less time.

According to government of Madhya Pradesh 3,787 people were killed due to the effect of the toxic gases. On that day more then 20,000 people were went to near by hospitals for their treatment for symptoms including breathing difficulties , swollen eyes. Animals were also get effected badly by the toxic gases.

In 1989, the government of india and union carbide aggred with a settelement of E470, but again in 1999 a group of volunteers realize thet its not enough which had been done to help victims claimed a lawsuit against union carbide which violated international law and human rights. In November 2002 warren Anderson owner of union carbide faces charges of “culpable homicide” which reportedly to have compromised safety standards . in june 2010, andreson and seven ex-employes of UCC were declared guilty for Bhopal causing death by inattention and convict imprisonment and fine of about $2,000 each.
